I must have been about nine years old when I got introduced to product design. My mom had worked in a furniture store that sold a lot of Danish design so she knew that people actually made a living as a designer.

As I started to develop my skills to make things, she got me interested in how that stuff looked. I started to make a lot of drawings of ideas I had for furniture and stuff and at some point I decided to actually start making the furniture and lights that I had designed. I must have been about 16 years old when I made my first lamp. And pretty soon a cascade of other things for the house were flying out of my parents shed.

By now I'm more than twice as old and I now know that it is not exactly design that drives me.

I'm an inventor.
I'm a designer.
I'm a marketeer.
I'm a bit of a psychologist.
And probably the rarest: I'm a simplifier.

Oh if I only were just one of those things. Life would be so much easier for me. If you are just one thing, your skill set is easy to sell to others.

But I am at least all 5. I hate doing what has been done before. I get bored by stuff that is only beautiful. I don't want things to be clever but ugly. And I enjoy figuring out what drives people to (not) buy stuff. But most of all, I enjoy simplifying things. Bring things down to the bear essentials.
